Varanosaurus was a carnivorous Eupelycosaur and primitive synapsid that lived alongside Dimetrodon during the Permian Period between 290 and 270 million years ago. Their body form resembled monitor lizards that are found today. Though they look like lizards, they are synapsids, which includes all mammals today.
